About the position:
We’re a small engineering team in a rapidly growing startup seeking a second front-end web developer for our two web sites—online communities formed around creating print magazines. You will work alongside and in close collaboration with the rest of the 8020 development team to help refine and build new features and functionality for both sites. You will enjoy opportunities to own development projects from start to finish, and to use front-end development as a means of growing traffic and engagement on our sites, as well as achieve other strategic goals.
Requirements:
• At least three years experience in a production environment, resulting in a firm grasp of CSS, XHTML, unobtrusive Javascript, and the DOM
• You’ve built AJAX-using interfaces
• Able to write clean code for complex interfaces in accordance with web standards and that validates (or comes very close—this is the real world, we know.)
• Working knowledge of CVS, Linux, Photoshop, image editing, and the differences between how various browsers/platforms render pages (in)correctly
• Familiarity with the concepts of frameworks and MVC
Bonus nice-to-haves:
• A working knowledge of all things LAMP
• Previous experience with Prototype & script.aculo.us, and/or jQuery
• Experience using the Google Maps API
• You like to take photos or have some good travel stories
• A sense of humor, empathy for online communities
We’re looking for someone in the San Francisco Bay Area that can work in downtown SF.
Please be prepared with a portfolio and code samples we can look at.
